An exhibition of masks from the renowned Quai Branly Museum has opened in China's National Museum. The exhibition is called "Masks: Beauty of the Spirits".
A fascinating drama between humanity and unknown, invisible forces can be seen here.
The 100 masks on display show how different cultures over the centuries have visualised the faces of gods and spirits.
Yves Le Fur, curator of Quai Branly Museum, said, "This mask comes from New Guinea and accentuates the nose, because the nose is important in this region and demonstrates their ancestor’s power. And this one is from the early 20th century, so the features are very abstract. But the nose also stands out."
