May Day music fest face-off in Beijing

Held at the Tongzhou Canal Park, this year’s event boasted a strong line-up of over 160 indie and alternative bands from around the world.(CNTV)

During the May Day Holiday, the country has been jam-packed with music festivals. The two major players: the Midi music festival and the Strawberry music festival, both here in Beijing.

Now in its fifth year, Strawberry has risen to the top of the list for the indie crowd, and known for its large variety of music. Held at the Tongzhou Canal Park, this year’s event boasted a strong line-up of over 160 indie and alternative bands from around the world.

Performances took place on 8 stages, each hosting different genres, and headliners included the bands Travis, Lenka and Monokino. Founded in 2000, Midi is the longest-running music festival in China. This year it featured a line-up of over 100 rock bands from both home and abroad.
