In Germany, a year long Chinese Culture Year has just concluded with a concert performed by Chinese artists. The event enables folks in Germany to better understand China, and facilitates further cooperation between the two countries.
The Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, from east China, performed a carefully selected program at the Berlin Concert Hall. The tunes include Gustav Mahler's "Song of the Earth", a symphonic piece by the Austrian composer inspired by China's ancient poems. The concert, merging east and west, served as a perfect fullstop for the year-long cultural exchange event.
The Chinese Culture Year was held in 2012 to coincide with the 40 year anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. It showcases an opening, vibrant and contemporary China through music, drama, dance, literature, film and exhibitions. It also promotes diversity and mutual understanding.
