In January 30, 1991, the famous dancer Yang Liping performed Peacock dance “Soul of Peacocks” in the Cultural Palace of Nationalities in Beijing.

Yang Liping is noted for her "Peacock dance" and her bold and original performance conquered audience. Yang loved dance since she was a little girl. In 1986, she created and performed a solo “Spirit of Peacock" which brought her into fame.

In 2012，she performed "Love of Peacock" at CCTV Spring Festival Gala, which brought her peacock dance to a new high level.

Dance drama "Peacock" directed by Yang Liping is divided into four chapters namely spring, summer, autumn and winter. Yang tells the story of growth, human nature, life and love through dance.

Many people mistake this dance drama as Yang's final work. However, she responded in an easy way, "I'm from dance to dance. There’s no so-called farewell stage for me. Everything goes naturally…I was inspired by an old dancer and I will dance till the last minute of my life.”
