Hosts Liaoning bounced back to top the rowing rankings at the 12th National Games, adding three gold medals into its credit on Tuesday.
Liaoning, which had winning chance in six events but only grabbed one gold in women's lightweight quadruples on Monday, took three golds on Tuesday in women's quadruples, men's lightweight double sculls and women's eight.
In women's quadruples, Olympic champions Tang Bin and Zhang Yangyang led Liaoning to finish first in 6 minutes and 22.86 seconds, followed by Jiangxi and Shandong.
Tang Bin said after the race: "We had full confidence to win even before the match, although the result is not good enough."
Jin Ziwei, representing Jiangxi and also champion member of women's quadruples in Beijing Olympics, said: "It's a regret to win a silver but that's sport. The average age of the team is over 30 and we are not as strong as youngsters physically."
Feng Guixin, member of Jiangxi team, left her then 10-month-old son to prepare for the National Games. "He is already over two years old. Now I can go home to be with him." she said in tears.
Liaoning and Shanghai both crossed the finish line in 6:20.82 in men's lightweight double sculls, each winning a gold medal.
Liaoning's Wang Jun waited anxiously for the official result.
"Waiting for the result is as energy-consuming as competing," said Wang.
Shandong continued its winning momentum by lifting another two titles in women's four and men's eight.
Shandong's Han Xiaoyan, member of women's four, said: "The key to success is sound teamwork and solid preparation."
Liaoning tops the rankings with four gold, four silver and one bronze medals, followed by Shandong with a 4-3-2 record and Guangdong 3-0-1.
