Teenager Li Zhaoyi claimed the first taekwondo gold at China's 12th National Games here on Sunday with victory in the women's 49kg class.
Representing Team PLA (the People's Liberation Army), the 2011 world championship runner-up, who celebrated her 19th birthday last Sunday, defeated Huang Xiaochun of Fujian 3-1 in the final.
In the semifinal Li tied with Liu Liping of Jiangsu 1-1 but advanced to the final due to lighter weight.
The bronze medals were shared by Liu and local player Yu Yanan.
In the men's 58kg category, Jiang Su's Zhao Shuai beat Xu Yongzeng of Fujian 3-2 to claim the title.
Zhao trounced Sichuan's Chenbo 14-2 in the semifinal, while Xu, bronze medalist at the last National Games, defeated Pei Guangqi, silver-medalist four years ago, 6-4 to reach the final.
The bronze medals went to Pei and Li Zhihua of the PLA team as he beat Chen 2-1 in the bronze medal playoffs.
