Kobe Bryant, at the age of 34, has played in the NBA for 17 years. The LA Lakers’ shooting guard may retire from the league next season or in two years as he himself revealed. So how would he like to be remembered by his fans?
Kobe has gained a lot this summer, an Olympic Gold Medal, two great partners. The town was abuzz this summer with the news that two of the biggest stars were coming to LA. The Lakers acquired two-time MVP Steve Nash, and three-time defensive player of the year Dwight Howard.
But even the best plans on paper don’t always work out as the faithful soon found out. And the bad news got worse when Steve Nash hurt his leg in the second match of this season. The slow start made Mike Brown coaching casualty just five games in, and led to the eventual hiring of the former Sun and Knicks coach, Mike D’Antoni.
However, D’Antoni was not to be the saver. The Lakers have had numerous problems this season as Steve Blake and Pau Gasol were injured and Howard was out of form. Kobe and his team were in the media headlines.
There’s no denying that Kobe is extremely productive this season as he’s scored the highest points in the league. On December 5th, Kobe added to his legendary resume, becoming a member of one of the world’s most exclusive clubs in league history. Kobe Bryant, the greatest player in the history of the Los Angelos Lakers, has just joined this very elite club.
But Kobe’s brilliant performance couldn’t keep his team in position. In the 15 matches where Kobe scored more than 30 points, the Lakers lost 11. The superstar finally admitted his helplessness.
2012, the toughest year for Kobe, is about to draw to a close. But how much time is left for the big star in the league?
On Tuesday, Kobe and his Lakers will host New York Knicks. Brooklyn is to face Boston at home and Houston will head to Chicago. Oklahoma City will play against Miami and Denver will play host to the LA Clippers.
