MUNICH, Germany, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The Ifo Business Climate Index for industry and trade in Germany continued to rise slightly to 105.9 in June, Ifo said here on Monday.
This is the second consecutive rise of the business climate index, which is considered the most important barometer for the German economy, from 105.7 in May and 104.4 in April, the Munich-based think tank said.
Although assessments of the current business situation are slightly less positive, firms are increasingly optimistic with regard to their future business outlook, according to Ifo's newly released report, based on a monthly survey of about 7,000 firms.
"The German economy holds its course,"Ifo said.
However, the Business Climate Indicator for the German service sector, which is also released on Monday by Ifo, declined slightly after last month's recovery.
"The service providers surveyed are no longer quite as satisfied with their current business situation as last month," Ifo said in the report.
