CHENGDU, June 6 (People's Daily Online) -- Guo Ping, vice chairman and rotating CEO of China's Huawei group, highlighted the importance of protection of intellectual property on a sub forum of 2013 Fortune Global Forum.
Guo said that over 50 percent of employees of Huawei work in Research and Development (R & D) departments, and the expenditures on research exceeded 14 percent of the company’s revenue.
To be a "global company" and hiring the top talents is the major mission of the company, he said. For example, Huawei's current algorithm research is conducted mainly in Russia, while microwave research is done in Europe.
Huawei currently has 150,000 employees. In the research and development of wireless communication devices, the most challenging task is to continuously improve the efficient use of frequency resources, he said. Huawei’s engineers are doing researches in Sweden, Shanghai, Chengdu and other locations, cooperating with each other.
In discussing how to improve the investment environment, Guo pointed out the need to further strengthen the protection of intellectual property. If there is no protection of intellectual property, more investment in technology will be impossible, he said.
