BANGKOK, May 11 -- The army and police still take control of the Government House in the Thai capital Bangkok although leaders of anti-government protestors have been allowed to hold press conference in a building there, an army officer said Sunday.

The military and police forces have not withdrawn from the Government House and core members of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) have been allowed to use the Santi Maitree building only, commander of the 1st Infantry Division Maj Gen Apirat Kongsompong was quoted by Bangkok Post as saying.

The PDRC leaders were allowed to use the building for fear of protesters breaking into the Government House and causing damage.

"We don't want to see clashes or confrontations instead of talks," Apirat said, adding the use of force will only be the last resort.

Two grenades were reportedly thrown at a rally site of the anti- government protestors near the Government House late Saturday night, injuring a man and a woman.
