BRUSSELS, Oct. 25 -- Top leaders of the European Union (EU) on Friday agreed to set up a task force to address immigration concerns in the Mediterranean, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said at the end of a two-day summit in Brussels.
The task force would be led by the European Commission, and EU leaders would return to the immigration topic with operational decisions in the next summit to be held in December, Van Rompuy said.
EU leaders agreed that determined actions should be taken to avoid disasters from happening again, following tragic shipwrecks off an Italian island earlier this month, according to the president.
