BUCHAREST, Sept. 8 -- Two earthquakes measuring 4.1 and 4.7 degrees on the Richter scale hit the Hunedoara area in western Romania on Sunday afternoon, according to the National Institute for Earth Physics.

Tremors were also felt in the capital city of Bucharest.

There are no reports of casualties, injuries or major material damages for now.

Four more quakes have been registered in September in Romania, including one measuring 3.8 degrees on the Richter scale in Transylvania of central Romania. The other three in the country's eastern area of Vrancea, one of the most active seismic areas in Europe, all measured above 3 degrees.

A 7.6-magnitude earthquake occurred in March 1977 in Vrancea, killing 1,600 people and damaging 8,500 buildings.
