VALLETTA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- A man was injured after being shot during an attempted hold-up outside the Skyparks near Malta International Airport (MIA) Thursday morning, according to local report.
The shooting was carried out by two men wearing balaclavas.
It appears that the two robbers, driving a white Peugeout 208, collided into the victims' car. Two masked men got out of the car, one armed with a knife and the other with a sawn-off shotgun. The driver was shot to his face at a very close distance while the passenger was slightly injured with a knife.
According to sources, nothing was robbed from the victims.
The passenger is currently with the crime scene investigators, describing how the events unfolded.
Shortly after midday, the car was found after a young woman reported seeing a car left with its passenger door open in Gudja, some 2.2 kilometers away from MIA.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the getaway car had been stolen. The number plate did not match the car's registration.
This was the second such case within 7 days, with 10,000 pounds Sterling having been stolen in a hold-up in Malta's Qawra last Friday.
