ANKARA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Turkey is following the situation of the detained Turkish crew members aboard a foreign-flagged freighter, which was stopped by the Yemeni authorities on Saturday in Yemeni waters, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Levent Gumrukcu said Tuesday.

Gumrukcu said investigations into the incident are ongoing, and Turkey's embassy in Sanaa is following the situation of the Turkish seamen.

Meanwhile, Turkey's Hurriyet Daily News reported Tuesday that the ship was Comoros-flagged and eight Turkish seamen were detained.

The freighter "Svetla" that was sailing in Yemeni waters was taken to Hudaida port by Yemeni coast guards on Saturday on suspicion of illegal arms trading, said Gumrukcu.

"The blank cartridge guns found in the freighter, which were planned to be smuggled into the country, were confiscated," said the spokesman, who vowed to fully cooperate with the Yemeni side in probing into the issue.
