MOSCOW, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Moscow expects the six-party talks concerning nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula to resume soon, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.
"It is hard to make any guess. But everyone believes that the sooner such talks resume, the more chances there are to reach stability and alleviate tension on the Korean Peninsula," ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told reporters.
Kim Kye Gwan, the first vice foreign minister of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), held a five-hour talk with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Titov on Thursday. Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov also attended the meeting.
The ministers focused on prospects for resuming the six-party talks on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Lukashevich called the talks "very constructive and up to the point."
"We expect this sort of consultations would allow us soon to speak about some particular timing of resumption of the six-party talks, Lukashevich said, stressing that would depend on Pyongyang's position and demands of the international community.
The six-party talks, which involve the DPRK, South Korea, Japan, China, the United States and Russia, was launched in 2003 but stalled in December 2008.
