BERLIN, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Germany called for calm and avoidance of violence in Egypt on Thursday as Egyptian judge Adli Mansour was sworn in as the interim president.
"We call on all concerned parties to stay in the path of democracy, avoid violence and show confidence in dialogue," German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said during a visit to Greece.
He called on all political forces in Egypt to choose dialogue and compromise and to work on solutions to the crisis on the basis of democratic principles.
Egypt's armed forces on Wednesday ousted embattled President Mohamed Morsi in favor of the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court running the country for a transitional period.
