OSAKA, July 4 (Xinhua)-- A local prosecutor's office in Osaka, western Japan tackling a case of "corporal punishment"against a high school student Thursday indicted a former 47-year-old teacher on charges of bodily injury and assault, local media reported.
The Osaka District Public Prosecutors Office charged the teacher and former basketball club adviser, Hajime Komura, who allegedly physically punished a 17-year-old student who later committed suicide in December last year, Japan's public broadcaster Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK) reported.
The student, who served as captain of the club at the city-run Sakuranomiya High School, was slapped in the face several times by Komura the day before his death following mistakes in a practice game, the reports said.
The trial is expected to start this summer.
