ALGIERS, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The Algerian army forces killed seven militants on the border with Libya while still besieging others, local media reported Thursday.

Citing a security source, El Khabar newspaper said the army forces tracked down an armed group overnight Wednesday in the province of Illizi, 1,800 km southeast of Algiers, and killed seven militants.

The Algerian army has declared a state of alert on the borderline with Mali, Libya and Tunisia, following information about a potential terror attack that would target vital sites in Algeria, said the source.

Three armed groups are trying to illegally enter Algeria to carry out an attack that has been plotted for a couple of months, it added.

In mid-June, the Algerian army forces killed five militants belonging to the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa, as they attempted to intrude into Algeria via the border with Mali.
