CONAKRY, June 27 (Xinhua) -- On the occasion to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Wednesday, the Guinean authorities decided to burn different typesof drugs that were seized by the country's defense and security services.
In total, over 400 kg of cannabis, close to 430 grams of heroine and over 900 bottles of counterfeit products were reduced to ashes in the presence of representatives of the international community and health partners.
This year, stakeholders in the anti-narcotics war urged policy-makers and social actors to be involved in the protection of the population, especially youths who are exposed to the dangers of drugs.
In Guinea where the proliferation of drugs is serious, the fight against drugs is a major concern for the government. This explains the decision to form a special police unit to fight against drugs and organized crime, attached directly to the president's office.
Statistics from Guinea's inter-ministerial committee for fighting against drugs indicates that 25 percent of patients seeking psychiatrist services in Donka hospital, suffer from the impact of drug use.
