DAMASCUS, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Syria's government troops on Thursday ambushed rebel fighters in the country's northern city of Aleppo, killing 11 of them, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
The ambush took place at the Sleiman al-Halabi neighborhood, the Observatory said, adding that the rebels have not yet been able to retrieve the bodies of the dead due to the government troops' bombardment.
Meanwhile, six rebel militants were killed during clashes at a Syrian military checkpoint in the northern province of al-Qamishli, the Observatory said.
Also, it said an attack by a Syrian gunship killed 10 civilians, including two women and one kid, in the northern province of Hasaka.
However, the activists' account could not be independently verified.
