RAMALLAH, June 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will visit the region next week for more efforts to revive the stalled peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, a senior Palestinian official said Tuesday.
"Kerry is supposed to present his political views concerning the resumption of the peace negotiations with Israel," Mohamed Ishtaya, a senior Palestinian negotiator, told Voice of Palestine radio.
Since March, the U.S. top diplomat has been carrying out marathon visits, contacts and talks with both Israeli and the Palestinian leaders, trying to bridge the gaps between the two sides.
Earlier reports said that Kerry will present his peace plan for the resumption of talks through tackling issues related to security and borders. Kerry had earlier suggested an eight-week period to present his plan.
"The Palestinian leadership will look into Kerry's ideas and to what extent it meets the minimum standard of the Palestinian demands concerning resumption of the talks with Israel," said Ishtaya.
The Palestinians decided to suspend the direct peace talks with Israel in October 2010, after the latter insisted on keeping building settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Kerry was scheduled to visit in the Middle East last week, however, the visit was postponed due to the crisis in Syria. "We still wait until he (Kerry) finalizes all his discussions and we will see what he will present then," said Ishtaya.
