Swedish Princess Madeleine marries U.S. banker Christopher O'Neill

STOCKHOLM, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Swedish Princess Madeleine tied the knot with U.S. banker Christopher O'Neill on Saturday in central Stockholm.
Royals, business tycoons and celebrities attended the wedding ceremony in the Royal Chapel at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, where the city is filled with joy and cheer.
According to the Swedish Royal Court, Madeleine Therese Amelie Josephine, Princess of Sweden, Duchess of Halsingland and Gastrikland, was born on 10 June 1982. She is the youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
Mr. Christopher O'Neill is an American citizen, a banker. He will continue his business activities as before after marriage to Princess Madeleine, and thus will not hold the title H.R.H. Prince of Sweden.
In accordance with royal protocol, a member of the Royal Family should be a Swedish citizen, and should not hold a position of responsibility within business. In view of these requirements, Mr. Christopher O'Neill has respectfully requested to remain a private citizen and not to be granted royal rank.
The engagement between Princess Madeleine and Mr Christopher O'Neill was announced on October 25, last year.
