DAMASCUS, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Mokhtar Lamani, the Damascus representative of the UN-Arab League peace envoy to Syria, said Monday that his efforts will be focused on the planned international conference on Syria slated for June.

Lamani made the remarks upon his arrival to the capital Damascus with his team members who left Syria two months ago after mortar shells slammed their hotel in the heart of the capital.

"The focus would be on the Geneva meeting. And all communications are being made for that regard," he told reporters at the Sheraton Hotel, adding that "we haven't determined anything yet but everything is possible after all necessary communications to make the Geneva meeting a success."

Last week, the United States and Russia agreed to reactivate the Geneva Declaration agreed upon last year in a fresh push to craft a solution to Syria's protracted crisis, and hold an international conference with the presence of representatives of both the Syrian administration and the opposition.

While the move was lauded by the international community as a viable chance to end the deadlock in Syria, local political analysts said that the most important factor to make this conference fruitful is for all parties to work together with transparency and good intentions and to avoid placing preconditions.

On Saturday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad welcomed the new agreement between Moscow and Washington regarding finding a political approach to solve Syria's 26-month crisis, but also expressed skepticism about the West 's real intentions.
