NEW DELHI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- In yet another attack on women in the Indian capital, a 25-year-old woman was shot dead in public at a bus stand late Sunday evening allegedly by two drunk men after she resisted their attempt to molest her, just yards away from a mobile police post.

One of the accused, who fired three shots from a country-made revolver at the victim, was nabbed by passersby and handed over to the police, a senior police official said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to track down his accomplice.

The victim, identified as Pooja, was waiting for a bus along with her husband and one of her friends when the incident happened. "The two accused on a bike approached the trio and they shot the victim following a heated argument," the official said.

The latest incident showed that the national capital remains as unsafe for women as it was two months back -- despite several assurances from the police -- when a 23-year-old medical student was gang-raped by six men on a moving bus which she and her boyfriend had boarded after watching a movie.

The Delhi University student died of her injuries in late December at a hospital in Singapore.

Though all the six accused, including a minor, were arrested and five of them are currently on trial facing rape and murder charges, which carry a maximum of death penalty, the horrific incident had sparked massive public outcry across India over the rising cases of sexual assaults on women.
