PARIS, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- French Foreign Ministry on Wednesday urged French nationals to leave northern Cameroonian area where seven French tourists have been kidnapped a day before "as soon as possible."
"It's essential that French nationals who are currently in the far north of Cameroon to move to a safe place and leave the area as soon as possible," the ministry said.
The Quai d'Orsay also recommended French tourists to avoid northern parts of Cameroon near the Nigerian border until further notice.
On Tuesday, seven French expatriates including four children where abducted by a group of armed men on motorbikes near the Waza national park and Lake Chad where Westerners used to visit during holidays.
French President Francois Hollande said the French captives were hold by a Nigerian-based "terrorist group" known to French authorities and the militant organization had taken the hostages towards Nigeria.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, meanwhile, pointed the finger to the Islamist group Boko Haram to be behind Cameroon hostage taking.
Seven other French nationals are already being held hostage by Islamist groups in the Sahel region.
