LASHKAR GAH, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Air strike against Taliban militants claimed the life of a Taliban key commander Mullah Gulalai in the southern Helmand province 555 km south of Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday, a local official asserted.
"Acting upon intelligence report the security forces conducted air raids against Taliban militants in Nawa district of Helmand province at 03:00 p.m. local time as a result a Taliban key commander Mullah Gulalai was killed," Ahmad Shah the district police chief of Nawa district told Xinhua.
Mullah Gulalai was riding a motorbike when came under air attack and killed on the spot, he further said, adding Mullah Gulalai's elimination is a major setback to Taliban fighters in Helmand provinces and adjoining areas.
Taliban militants fighting the government and NATO-led troops have yet to comment.
