Famen Temple—the Imperial Buddhist Temple for the Tang Emperors
Situated in the Famen Town 10 kilometers north of the Fufeng County 120kilometers (75 miles) west of Xi’an, the Famen Temple was first built in the Late Eastern Han Dynasty, rose in the Northern Wei Period, flourished in the Sui Dynasty and reached its heyday in the Tang Dynasty. It is widely acknowledged as the world’s Holy Land of Buddhism as it houses the only real finger bones of Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism.
