In March 2013, Beckham was named as the first global ambassador for Chinese football, triggering another wave of “Beckham fever” in China. In June, Beckham’s China visit promoted a stampede in which seven people were injured. Although it was a tragedy, it showed how much Chinese fans love him.
Another big thing for him and his fans is his retirement. 38-year-old Beckham announced his intention to retire at end of the 2012-13 Ligue 1 season on May 16, and two days later, he played his final game to end his 20-year career. He broken down in tears as he left the pitch after game, the same for his fans, on the scene or in front of TV. His retirement means cruelness to his fans.
