Today, the returnees are faced with tremendous psychological pressure, which has a close relation with their motivation of going abroad. Generally speaking, the first category of returnees won't have too many troubles while the second and the third ones may undergo a toughening time and bear tremendous pressure in four aspects.
First, competition for jobs is intensifying. Associate professor at School of Psychology in Southwest University Yang Dong said that some students did not command a real skill abroad and cannot adapt to life in China, all of which led to difficulties in employment. Moreover, high costs of studying abroad pushed up their expectation of finding a high-paying job.
Second, they are unaccustomed to the interpersonal relationship in China. Yang said that Chinese people pay more attention to emotions while foreigners emphasize rationality and freedom. Therefore, there will be a crush on values and culture for the returnees.
Third, ambient pressure is huge. The returnees normally draw more attention from people around. In the eyes of their leaders, colleagues, and neighbors, they must have an excellent performance, stronger ability, and better future because of their overseas study experience, which inevitably increase their psychological pressure.
