The Guangzhou Auto Show in south China is open for business. |
In the meantime, German, U.S. and South Korean brands have all seen their market share rise significantly in the past two months, to 21 percent, 12 percent and 10 percent respectively. Chinese domestic brands enjoyed the biggest market share of 45 percent in October, the highest level this year. But executives of Chinese car makers at the Guangzhou Auto Show have made it clear that only quality and reputation can sustain growth, as opposed to specific incidents.
An Jin, Chairman, JAC Motors, said, "No matter how fast Chinese domestic car brands have grown in recent years, we are still relatively small compared to global brands. So it's not yet time to talk about competition with them. But we have our advantages. We know Chinese consumers better, and are better placed to develop products tailored to their needs. And we can find marketplaces in other emerging economies. If we can win in those specific market segments, our success will transform into scale and recognition. "
