For weeks prior to the sports meetings, groups of classmates would run along with the athletes in the stadium to show their support and encouragement.
During the sports meeting itself, every class or grade would cheer for the runners representing them. The victors would be held in high honor. The schools would always encourage students to participate in as many events as possible.
Of course, injuries happened, but they were seen as inevitable.
Nowadays it seems that to better "protect" students, different schools are taking similar actions. But are they really protecting and helping students? I'm afraid they are taking them down a wrong road.
The problem has been determined that the physical state of Chinese students in general has deteriorated, although their living conditions have largely improved. The attitude of avoiding potential risks to curb this problem is clearly wrong.
Can the cancellation of potentially dangerous activities lead to students' physical condition improving? Without being healthy, can the students really perform well in their academic careers?
Without a healthy body and active mind, can they face and deal with life's pressures after they leave school?
The answers are obviously no.
