China's Qinghai launches 750-kV power project connecting new energy to grid
XINING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- A 750 kV power transmission and transformation project has been completed and put into operation in northwest China's Qinghai Province, according to the State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company.
The project, situated in Gonghe County of Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture at an average altitude of 3,175 meters, will help connect electricity generated by new energy projects in the province, including photovoltaic and wind power projects, to the power grid.
The project is expected to increase annual clean energy power generation by more than 9 billion kilowatt-hours, which is equivalent to saving about 3.12 million tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 8.64 million tonnes.
Qinghai is home to the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang rivers and is known for its rich water, solar and wind power resources. Total installed clean energy capacity in Qinghai had reached 51.07 million kilowatts in 2023.
