China-France cultural exchange exhibition opens at Beijing's Palace Museum

The exhibition "The Forbidden City and the Palace of Versailles: Exchanges Between China and France in the 17th and 18th Centuries" opened at the Palace Museum in Beijing on April 1.

As a key highlight of the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism in 2024, the exhibition features around 200 works from the Palace Museum, the Palace of Versailles, and other institutions. It emphasizes the political and cultural exchanges between the two nations over approximately a century.

Guo Fuxiang, the exhibition's curator on the Chinese side and a research fellow at the Palace Museum, said the period from the second half of the 17th century through the 18th century was a golden era for exchanges between the Chinese and French courts, as well as for cultural communications between the two sides.

Despite the geographical distance, China and France have made sustained efforts to understand each other and conduct cultural exchanges throughout history. This two-way interaction is a splendid chapter in the exchanges between different civilizations.

The exhibition will run through June 30, 2024.
