Mainland spokesperson lauds Ma Ying-jeou for reflecting common aspiration of Taiwan compatriots
BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- A mainland spokesperson commended Ma Ying-jeou, former chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang party, on Wednesday for revealing the real motive of certain individuals in the United States who advocate intervention in the Taiwan question, and for reflecting the common aspiration of Taiwan compatriots.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, emphasized the importance of resolutely opposing separatist activities seeking "Taiwan independence" and external interference, in a bid to safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, as well as guarantee the wellbeing of Taiwan compatriots and the future of the Taiwan region.
Zhu made the remarks in response to a media inquiry regarding a recent speech by Ma in New York University, during which Ma accused certain individuals in the United States of intending to "turn Taiwan into a battlefield" and "transform Taiwan into a second Ukraine" without considering the safety and wellbeing of the people in Taiwan.
"Both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one and same China, and Taiwan is part of China," Zhu said.
Zhu slammed the sinister intention of some Americans to use Taiwan to contain China and the development of China, and to obstruct the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
She also denounced Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for seeking "Taiwan independence" by soliciting U.S. support. The DPP authorities, which willingly serve as a pawn of the United States, are doomed to be sacrificed, Zhu said.
