Modi congratulates Indian athletes on 100 medals haul at Hangzhou Asian Games
NEW DELHI, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday congratulated the country's athletes at the Hangzhou Asian Games on their achievement of bagging 100 medals.
"A momentous achievement for India at the Asian Games! The people of India are thrilled that we have reached a remarkable milestone of 100 medals," Modi in a statement said. "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our phenomenal athletes whose efforts have led to this historic milestone for India. Every awe-inspiring performance has made history and filled our hearts with pride."
The Indian Prime Minister announced he will host the athletes. "I look forward to hosting our Asian Games contingent on the 10th and interacting with our athletes," he said.
So far, India, having sent its largest-ever contingent to Hangzhou with an aim to cross the 100-medal mark, has clinched 25 gold, 35 silver and 40 bronze at the 19th Asian Games, surpassing the nation's 2018 tally of 70 medals.
