Hong Kong to hold series of activities on National Security Education Day
HONG KONG, April 4 (Xinhua) -- John Lee, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), said on Tuesday that the HKSAR government will hold a string of activities on April 15 to mark the annual National Security Education Day.
Lee told a press briefing before an executive council meeting that this is the first National Security Education Day since Hong Kong lifted all social distancing measures, and the HKSAR government will hold a smorgasbord of off-line activities to increase public awareness of national security.
The theme of this year's National Security Education Day is "National Security, Foundation of Stability and Prosperity". On April 15, there will be a grand opening ceremony on the theme day and a seminar will be held for attendees to discuss topics related to national security, Lee said.
Disciplined services departments of the HKSAR government will jointly hold a flag-raising ceremony, and some of the disciplinary forces will arrange open days to give the public a better understanding of their work related to national security.
The HKSAR government will also promote national security to people of different ages and all walks of life through TV programs and exhibitions.
Lee said that national security education should start from young. The HKSAR government will hold workshops for primary school students and distribute 60,000 copies of picture books to all primary schools.
"It is everyone's responsibility to safeguard national security. I hope that the public and all sectors of society will support and enthusiastically engage in the activities," Lee said.
