UK updates guidance as 3 more COVID-19 cases confirmed

(People's Daily Online)    15:53, March 02, 2020

Another three COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the UK this morning, including the first one in Wales, bringing the total number of cases in the UK to 19.

The Department of Health and Social Care said the virus in the two new cases in England had been contracted in Iran and the patients have been transferred to specialist NHS infection centres at the Royal Free Hospital.

The Welsh patient was infected in northern Italy before heading to the UK.

The UK Chief Medical Officer has raised the risk to the UK from low to moderate.

The latest guidance from the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England suggests returning travellers should call NHS 111, stay indoors and avoid contact with other people immediately if they have come to the UK from China, Iran or northern Italy.

To reduce the risk of further human-to-human transmission in the UK, the Health Protection (Coronavirus) Regulations 2020 have been put in place. It suggests keeping individuals in isolation where there is a reasonable risk an individual may have the virus. (Tianxing Bai)
