Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Women, sent a letter to Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the United Nations on Jan. 31, expressing solidarity and support in the face of the outbreak of novel coronavirus.
The letter is as follows:
On behalf of UN Women, I would like to express our solidarity and support in the face of the outbreak of coronavirus in the People’s Republic of China.
UN Women stands ready to support your Government in any way you may deem relevant, particularly in regard to the impact of the coronavirus on women and girls, especially the most vulnerable. We will continue to work alongside the World Health Organization and other UN partners for a coordinated response.
Our office in China has already expressed our readiness and solidarity with All China Women’s Federation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Please be assured of UN Women’s full support at the highest level and of my personal commitment.
