BEIJING, Sept. 24 -- What counts as a good human rights protection?
A white paper newly issued by China's State Council Information Office has the answer: to ensure people live a happy life.
That is exactly what the People's Republic of China (PRC) has been working so hard to achieve since its founding in 1949.
At the juncture to celebrate the PRC's 70th founding anniversary, it is time to reflect on the progress.
The average life expectancy of Chinese people reached 77 years in 2018 from 35 in 1949. Gross national income per capita hit 9,732 U.S. dollars in 2018, higher than the average level seen in middle-income countries. China's rural poor have been reduced from 770 million to 16.6 million from 1978 to 2018.
As the largest developing country, China has always put people's rights to subsistence and development as the first priority, based on which, the economic, social and cultural rights and civil and political rights of the people can achieve balanced development.
As the saying goes: "Only the wearer knows whether the shoes fit or not."
In today's China, progress is being made in all areas. The Chinese people have a much stronger sense of fulfillment, happiness and security.
This shows that China's approach to human rights protection is effective.
As the country strives further to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation, its people will certainly enjoy more extensive rights.
China's experience will also make further contributions to human rights protection worldwide.
