Young people in Chinese mainland hope Hong Kong will end chaos and restore order soon

(People's Daily Online)    17:42, August 19, 2019

Young people from all walks of life in the Chinese mainland have recently paid close attention to the situation in China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR). They condemned the violence and voiced strong support for law-based governance and strict law enforcement, hoping Hong Kong will soon end the chaos and restore order.

“Hong Kong has enjoyed prosperity and stability for more than 20 years since its return to the motherland. But the recent riots have plunged the city into chaos. It’s hard to expect young people to thrive in such an environment,” said Xiong Chao, a young teacher at a school in Nanshan District of Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province.

The prosperity and development of a society cannot be achieved without the efforts of the youth, stressed Xiong, adding “as a young teacher, it’s my responsibility to help our students take the current riots as a warning, and firmly oppose violence.”

After unremitting efforts spanning several generations, the Chinese nation feels proud of its achievements, said Guan Ke, deputy director of the Institute of Modern Communications of Beijing Jiaotong University.

Guan is a 5G and high-speed rail communications scholar. Denouncing the radicals and rioters in Hong Kong and hoping society to return to law-based governance and rationality, Guan noted that “the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation needs solidarity and concerted efforts of every Chinese person.”

“No matter if we live in Hong Kong or the mainland, we are all Chinese. It’s our common wish to love Hong Kong SAR, love our motherland, support the Hong Kong SAR government in exercising law-based governance and the Hong Kong police in strictly enforcing the law. Let Hong Kong return to peace,” said Yin Wenjie, a doctoral student of Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Tsinghua University.

Yan Jixiong, an undergraduate student of the School of Earth Sciences, Lanzhou University, was angry when radicals insulted the national flag in Hong Kong.

“We young students should resolutely support the Hong Kong SAR government in exercising law-based governance and the Hong Kong police in strictly enforcing the law and severely punishing criminals,” said Yan.

“We can see the names of a lot of patriotic Hong Kong citizens engraved on the buildings of schools and hospitals in Zanhuang County. These people have always paid attention to and supported the development of Zanhuang County. We couldn’t have got rid of poverty without their assistance,” said Wang Jianchuan, director of the village committee of Jianshou Village, Zanhuang County of north China’s Hebei Province.

Wang said he sincerely hopes that Hong Kong will stop the violence, end the chaos, and restore order as soon as possible.

Flash mob hip-hop dances with the theme “hip-hop young dancers safeguard Hong Kong” jointly organized by the publicity department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, China Dancers Association, and China Hip-Hop Union Committee, have recently been presented in several Chinese cities, including Shenzhen and Zhuhai.

Deng Zhifeng, the person in charge of the Zhenzhen show, said they want to express firm support for the Hong Kong SAR government, Hong Kong police and the people who love China and Hong Kong while showing their opposition of the radicals and rioters in Hong Kong.
