Beijing and 259 other cities in China will allow one card for public transportation by the end of this year, said Wu Chungeng, spokesman for the Ministry of Transport, on June 11, Chinanews.com reported.

So far, China's T-Union project, a nationwide transport service, has covered 245 cities across China, and another 15 will begin to provide such a service this year, the Ministry announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

Beijing is upgrading and debugging its China T-union card system. Its bus system temporarily only supports transport cards from 50 cities, while its urban rail transit system only supports 188 different transport cards, according to the Ministry.

China expects to achieve integration in urban and rural areas by 2020 as a part of its nationwide interconnectivity plan.
