Just after spring equinox, the people of Bengzha group in Xuande Village, Mengxian Town, Ning‘er County, Pu’er City dance to the beats of the “spring drums”. The villagers wear homemade navy blue Hani outfits, play the spring drums, and dance! Playing the spring drums has many connotations for the Hani people. It serves as good weather forecast for a great harvest, a totem to ward off evil and bring good luck, and a way to gather one’s children and grandchildren for spending valuable family time together. At the same time, it is a way to wish everyone health and happiness.
