From Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, 2019, San Francisco will celebrate its “Happy Chinese New Year” Shanghai Cultural Week, a city-themed event through the overseas Lunar New Year and Chinese culture brand "Happy Chinese New Year."
This is the first time that the city of Shanghai has presented an integrated cultural event on this scale, using radio, TV, film and sporting activities, since it became a sister city of San Francisco. The event gives San Francisco citizens an opportunity to learn about“made in Shanghai” culture.
This celebration is also a “cultural present” from Shanghai, to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-US diplomatic relations and the 39th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Shanghai and San Francisco.
To fully immerse guests, the Shanghai Cultural Week will present a variety of cultural shows including movies, musical performances, TV shows, documentaries, Peking Opera, Shanghai Opera, burlesque and other classical local operas, as well as sporting activities.
The event is hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Government Foreign Affairs Office, Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Consulate-General of P.R.C. in San Francisco and Shanghai Media Group(SMG), and has been organized by the Oriental Pearl Group, Shanghai WingsMedia, Shanghai Cultural Agency and Shanghai Table Tennis Association.
