China’s express delivery industry is expected to see a 20 percent rise in parcel volume this year, said speakers at a national conference held by the country’s State Post Bureau (SPB) on Jan. 3. Experts predict that China will deliver 60 billion parcels in 2019.
According to Ma Shengjun, head of the SPB, the revenue created in China through mail business increased 1,542 fold between 1978 and 2018, from 510 million to 787 billion yuan, accounting for nearly 0.9 percent of the country’s GDP.
Additionally, Chinese postal services make up about 1/6 of the global total, and have ranked as largest in the world in terms of business volume for five consecutive years, Ma added.
The conference said China’s national postal service would create a business income of 930 billion yuan in 2019, up 18 percent from the previous year, 715 billion yuan of which will be generated by the express delivery industry.
