The Embassy of the Czech Republic held a “cultural walk through Prague” event in Beijing on Wednesday, August 22, as one of a number of Czech days that are being held all over the country this year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia’s establishment.

The event, which took place in the grounds of the Embassy, showcased Czech culture with a variety of food, beer and music from an up and coming Czech singer, Lenny.

Furthermore, the Taste of Czech Innovation Expo opened during the event, allowing visitors to learn about Czech designers, inventors and products that may soon be traded as part of agreements signed thanks to the Belt and Road Initiative.

On the relationship between China and the Czech Republic, Head of the Political Section and Deputy Head of Mission at the Czech Embassy, Klára Jurčová said, “The Belt and Road Initiative is very much welcomed from the Czech Republic’s side. We signed a memorandum with China in 2015. Actually, we were the first of all EU countries to establish this Czech-China cooperation,” adding, “We have a list of projects we are working on. Of course, the Czech Republic is a small country, so [these projects] won’t be typical infrastructure projects but we do have projects in many areas such as aviation, healthcare, finance and tourism.”

Jurčová went on to say that the communication between China and the Czech Republic is ever growing, and that the Czech Embassy now attends the China Education Expo every year to welcome more Chinese exchange students to the Czech Republic as well as inviting Czech students to come and learn more about China.

There are a number of Czech Day events scheduled this year throughout China. It’s hoped that during these events, the two cultures can share ideas, learn from one another and develop in a variety of different industries.
