On Sunday, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) top discipline watchdog, published a set of free stickers on WeChat, the country’s most popular messaging app.
Sunday marked the fifth anniversary of the adoption of the CPC's eight-point regulations, and the stickers were released by the CCDI in celebration of it.
The eight-point regulations specify the “dos and don’ts” for officials and focus on rejecting extravagance and reducing bureaucratic meetings and empty talk. They were adopted to improve officials’ work style and improve ties between the people and officials.
The 16 animated GIFs include slogans taken from Xi Jinping’s eight-point regulations. For example, one sticker reminds officials that playing golf is forbidden, while another reminds them that they are banned from going to private clubs.
“The eight-point regulations fulfill the Party’s solemn promise, respond to the people’s expectations, and win the hearts and minds of the Party and the people,” the CCDI said in a statement in Chinese.
The statement went on to say that the stickers are a way to narrow the distance between netizens and the supervisory bodies, and help people better understand the spirit of the rules.
The CCDI is at the center of Xi’s fight against corruption. In the first half of 2017 alone, the discipline watchdog punished 210,000 people for violating the Party’s Code of Conduct.
