Chinese supermodel Ming Xi, who was born Xi Mengyao, took a tumble on the runway of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai on November 20, 2017. However, the Shanghai-born supermodel handled the misfortune with confidence and a smile, capturing the world’s heart.
Seven Chinese models took part in China’s first-ever Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Out of the 55 models in the show, Xi was the only one to fall on stage, and the ordeal quickly became one of the top-trending items on China’s Twitter-like Weibo.
“I’m sorry to let everyone down. Thanks for everyone’s concern,” Ming Xi, 28, said on Weibo.
“As a model for seven years, I have fallen on this road many times, but I know no matter how painful it is, I must stand and finish.”
“The future road is long. I will always continue walking.”
People from China and across the world praised Xi for her poise. After falling on the runway in Shanghai, she got up and finished her walk with grace. As of press time, her apology on Weibo has received some 250,000 comments.
The Chinese model has received an outpouring of support from celebrities, including Chinese Olympic swimmer Fu Yuanhui, who shot to fame for her funny facial expressions and sense of humor, and Chinese actress Karen Mok, as well as thousands of fans.
He Jiong, a renowned entertainment show host in China, said he was touched at how gracious and confident she was after the fall.
American fashion model Karlie Kloss wrote on her Weibo: “You handled that with such grace and elegance. Sometimes you trip and fall but it’s how you get back up that matters, and you got up like a champ and owned it,” she wrote.
For many, Xi’s flawless recovery embodies the Chinese spirit of hard work and perseverance. “You are the pride of Chinese models!” said one of the thousands of Weibo comments.
