First-tier cities are not the only choice for overseas returnees in job hunting due to rising employment pressure, according to a joint report released by Education International Cooperation (EIC) Group Ltd. and China’s job-hunting websites, Guangzhou Daily reported.

The number of overseas returnees’ curriculum vitas increased by a factor of seven from 72,235 in 2014 to 514,352 in 2017, indicating rising employment pressure.

Chinese overseas returnees from the UK, US, Australia, and Japan top the list by 24.5 percent, 21.2 percent, 17.9 percent, and 8.6 percent, respectively.

In addition, the report pointed out that Chinese overseas returnees from the US, UK, Australia, and Germany are the most favored by employers, followed by Japan, Canada, France, Singapore, South Korea, and Russia.

Apart from China’s first-tier cities, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Chengdu, and Suzhou are also popular among overseas returnees searching for work.

The IT, finance, real estate, education, and training sectors, as well as the machinery manufacturing industry, are currently seeing the largest demand of overseas returnees, according to the report.
