Shanghai has issued new standards for public toilets, and the city is planning to make more family, unisex, and women restrooms to satisfy increasing public demand, according to Shanghaifabu, an official WeChat account of Shanghai City.
Shanghai plans to increase the ratio of women to men toilets to 2.5:1, which means every two stalls for men should include five for women to reduce waiting time for women and families.
Family restrooms are independent and barrier-free facilities to provide convenience for elderly, the disabled, new mothers, and those with special needs.
In addition, the city plans to add more unisex restrooms, mostly in public spaces with heavy passenger flows.
