The high-speed railway in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region connecting Ulanqab and Hohhot is set to go operational on August 3 after the final trial, thePaper.cn reported.

The 126-km Ulanqab-Hohhot rail line, which is part of the Zhangjiakou-Hohhot high-speed rail, is the first high-speed rail in Inner Mongolia with a designed speed of 250 km per hour. It shortens travel time between the two cities by 40 minutes and also contributes to faster passenger movements to Hohhot, the regional capital.

It is expected that the Zhangjiakou-Hohhot high-speed rail will be connected to the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail under construction. Upon completion, travel time from Hohhot to Beijing will be reduced to three hours.
